Support Our Military With Handmade Cards
When you create handmade cards for our military, it’s good to honor both those who are actively serving and veterans.
So the organizations I feature below give you a variety of options depending on who you would like to receive your creative cards.
And, if you are able to write letters along with cards, many of these organization will accept those too!
Soldier’s Angels
The mission of Soldier’s Angels is, “to provide aid, comfort, and resources to the military and veteran community— no matter what that individual’s political or religious affiliations might be.”
Soldier’s Angels serves the military and veteran communities with a while host of options to support their organization – both in-person and virtual.
Some of the ways virtual volutneers can work with Soldier’s Angels is to bake treats for deployed members, adopt a family for the holidays, or (you guessed it!) make cards to help service members, veterans, and their families support all kinds of milestones.

A Million Thanks
The mission of A Million Thanks is to “provide support and appreciation to our active and veteran military men and women through sending letters and granting betterment of life wishes, as well as providing higher education scholarships to their children.”
Through their “Send A Letter” campaign, they collect and distribute millions of letters that they send to active, reserve, and veterans military.
I have included them in this handmade card list, because many of their sample letters ideas are things you could easily include in a full size card.
Where Do I Send The Cards?
Once you’re finished making cards, they ask that you complete this request form to get the mailing address where the cards should be sent.
Military Missions
Military Missions “exists to support and honor deployed military personnel by sending care packages year round as an expression of appreciation and gratitude.”
The organization began in 2004 and has built a robust support system for deployed service members and those here in the United States.
Since they include 10 – 15 cards in every care package they sent, they are ALWAYS in need of handmade cards with positive messages.
They accept cards of all kinds – prefab card with handwritten written messages, handmade cards, or even coloring pages that you. print and complete.
They ask that you do not date them and you don’t have to include an envelope.
Tips On How To Make Handmade Cards For Military Missions
Military Missions is also specific about what should be included in a card.
Many of their tips are fairly standard for a handmade card donation, but here are some of the important and specific details from their website just in case:
- Be positive and upbeat. Avoid talking about death, wounds, or anything negative or sad.
- Feel free to share a little info about yourself like hobbies, pets, etc.
- Talk about things happening around home like the weather, sports, etc.
- They love your drawings but DO NOT use glitter, because they can get in trouble if glitter gets on uniform/items.
- Avoid politics or political statements.
- Avoid lengthy religious discussions, but saying you are praying for them is great.
- Feel free to include your first name, city and state. It’s best to avoid giving your full address, especially for children.
