You may not know this, but a DIY fleece ear warmer is an easy answer to all of the “what should I make?” questions you’ll ask yourself as the holidays near.

Looking to make something cost effective and useful to donate to local shelters? Yep, you guessed! Make fleece ear warmers.

You get the gist.

So this tutorial will walk you through how easy a DIY fleece ear warmer is to make and even provide a little variation on the standard style so that you have some options.

What Fleece Should I Use?

Before I get started on the sewing how to construct this DIY project, let’s talk fabric.

Because it’s easy to get drawn into the “pretty” looking fleece textures that may not be right for this kind of project.

So when you’re shopping, look for blizzard or anti-pill fleece.

If you shop at JoAnn’s the blizzard fleece is a cost effective and offers LOTS of different patterns and colors.

When you watch for their seasonal sales, you can get both types at a really great price.

If you don’t want to buy a lot of fabric, the remnants bin is your best bet.

Not only will you be able to find a small piece of fabric, but if you find some during one of their sales you will get it on super discount.

I also grab remnants to have on hand to make an easy 10 minute fleece hat, fleece neck gaiter or a reversible fleece hat on a moment’s notice.

Let’s Make A Fleece Ear Warmer

For the last several years, I have focused on making fleece hats so this ear warmer is one of the first I’ve done in a long time.

So, I was reminded (when making the video below the step-by-step tutorial) that it’s best to use fleece that is a solid color or repeated geometric pattern.

If not, the print might not end up where you want it once sewn.

Regardless, I wanted to make an ear warmer that matched the hat in my easy DIY fleece hat tutorial (pictured above) so that I could donate the set to a clothes closet.
