This easy DIY “No Soliciting” sign is a beginner project that can be completed in less than 30 minutes with materials you can purchase at your local craft store if you don’t already have them in your stash.

But first, a little back story.

I have lived in a variety of cities and towns throughout the years. Only recently, though, have door-to-door sales people become a challenge.

And I get that it’s people just trying to do their jobs.

Some days, I even appreciate the personal touch that a face-to-face meeting can bring to an interaction (especially since so much of life is done online without a human connection).

Mostly, however, it’s just downright disruptive. So it’s time for me to hang an official “No Soilciting” sign.

But I also plan to add a little more visual appeal so this is a craft project I will make in two parts:

A wood sign with the words “No Soliciting”.
A wreath with colorful flowers that softens the “don’t bother me” message. (Tutorial coming soon!)

Some Tips Before You Get Started

The DIY no soliciting sign step-by-step tutorial below is a simple as you might expect but the format doesn’t allow for tips BEFORE you get started.

And there are definitely some hiccups I’ve experienced that I want to share so that you can think ahead instead of feeling frustrated if you’re new to any of these materials.

So please consider these things:

The barn wood plank I purchased had a raised texture so the stencil seal wasn’t as tight as usual. This means there was a litle bit of bleed on the sign. I was OK with this final look because it was supposed to be a little imperfect/worn looking. If you want a very crisp and clean look, make sure you either sand you plank ahead of painting or buy a prefab plank that is smooth.

If you’re new to stencil vinyl, it can be very finicky. Permament and heat transfer vinyl are thicker and easy to weed just by pulling. So, when weeding the Oramask, go slowly and use your non-weeding hand to hold things in place when necessary

How To Make A Simple "No Soliciting" Sign

This DIY "No Soliciting" sign is a straightforward project that is perfect for beginner crafters and people of all ages.

Materials

Unfinished wood plank
Oramask 813 stencil vinyl (or stencil vinyl of choice)
Vinyl transfer paper
Paint
Foam brush
Small piece of parchment paper
Spray sealer

Tools

Instructions

Gather your materials (transfer paper and spray sealer not pictured).
Download Create To Donate's "No Solicitiing" design file or creae your own.
Cut stencil vinyl to size so that it completely fills your blank wood plank.
Use the Sihouette or Cricut to cut out the "No Soliciting" design then weed the stencil.
Cut transfer paper to size and apply to the stencil vinyl.
Apply the stencil to the wood plank.
Place a large dot of pint on the parchment paper, then aoply two coats of paint according the manufacturer's instructions.
Remove the stencil and apply a finishing coat of your choice.

Notes

A smooth wood plan will allow for a tighter seal than the textured barn wood plank I used.
Stencil vinyl can be very tempermental, so take your time when weeding.
You don't have to use partchment paper for your paint. I just like how easy it makes clean up and it minimizes waste.
