Easy DIY Pacifier Clip
This easy DIY pacifier clip is a beginner sewing project that should take less than 10 minutes once you’ve gathered all the materials.
And I realize that while these clips are intended for pacifiers, they could really be used for almost anything that would benefit from a small tether.
When it comes to crafting for a cause, this simple DIY pacifier clip works well as part of a NICU Grad gift basket.
This is also something you can donate to family shelters with maternity programs.

What Is A Pacifier Clip?
But just in case you’re not familiar with a pacifier clip, this is what you need to know.
A DIY pacifier clip has two main parts:
- A loop of some sort to securely attach the pacifier to it.
- A tight clip that is used to attach the secured pacifier to (mostly) fabric.
As I mentioned before, it’s basically a short tether so when the baby or toddler releases the pacifier, it doesn’t fall to the ground.
It’s easy access at its finest and a very low-cost DIY solution to the alternative of being a human pacifier locator.

I’m not even going to regale you with some crafty story before getting to the step-by-step details.
Today is a straight-to-the-crafting kinda day.
Easy DIY: How To Make A Pacifier Clip
A pacifier clip is a mini-tether that secures the pacifier to a piece of clothing or fabric.
It keeps the pacifier from falling to the ground if the baby or toddler drops it.
Materials
- 3/4" ribbon (patterned or a solid color)
- Pacifier clip
- 550 paracord
- Pacifier
Tools
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Sewing clips (optional)
- Small lighter (optional)
Instructions
- Gather your materials.

- Cut a 14" length of ribbon.
- Cut a 6" length of 550 paracord.
- Singe the ends of the paracord with a lighter to "finish" them. (optional)
- Thread the ribbon through the clip.

- Fold over each edge of the ribbon about 1".

- Place the paracord between the two folded edges and secure for sewing.

- Sew around all of the ribbon's edges to close the gaps and to secure the clip.
- Sew an extra square with an "X" through the middle to make sure the paracord is extra secure.

- Attach a pacifier and it's ready to use or to give as a gift.

Notes
- As a safety precaution, it is recommended the length of the ribbon does not exceed 8".

No Pacifier? No Problem.
If you like the idea of attaching your child’s favorite item to some fabric, just switch it up slightly and use two clips instead of the paracord.
Then, you can attach a toy or blanket to one of the clips and use the other to clip to a piece of clothing or other fabric.
This DIY toy strap is also a simple process:
01. Thread the ribbon through each plastic clip, wrong sides facing out.
02. Sew the ends of the ribbon together using a 3/8″ seam allowance.
03. Turn the ribbon right sides out.
04. Top stitch a rectangle around the ribbon to close the middle gap and secure the clips on each end.
