This is part of a series of “Why I Give” interviews intended to demonstrate that we all have a cause that speaks to us and, no matter what we have, we can find some way to contribute. In the world of nonprofits, while monetary support is always needed, they also need our time and energy.
It’s also important to see the diversity in how people choose to give back, so I am hopeful that these first-person stories introduce you to opportunities you didn’t know existed and connect you to new concepts, new nonprofits, and wonderful new people.
It just takes one small action to have a ripple effect, and I want to make waves.

Anne Marie’s Story Of Giving
Who do you support?
I support two charities:
Why do you support Susan G. Komen and Make A Wish?
My mother died of breast cancer and I have a cousin who died who was a Wish Kid. They both have their faults, but they still do good work to help people when they need it.
How do you support Susan G. Komen and Make A Wish?
I have volunteered for both organizations. In college, I helped out at a few fundraiser events for Make A Wish. Since college, I have participated in countless Komen fundraisers and even served on the Race for the Cure committee in Atlanta one year.
How do you hope to make a difference through your support of Susan G. Komen and Make A Wish?
Both of these groups help make things easier for those in need. I always try to give back when I can. I want to set a good example to my kids about doing things for people who CAN’T return the favor.
