This is part of a series of “Why I Give” interviews intended to demonstrate that we all have a cause that speaks to us and, no matter what we have, we can find some way to contribute. In the world of nonprofits, while monetary support is always needed, they also need our time and energy.
It’s also important to see the diversity in how people choose to give back, so I am hopeful that these first-person stories introduce you to opportunities you didn’t know existed and connect you to new concepts, new nonprofits, and wonderful new people.
It just takes one small action to have a ripple effect, and I want to make waves.

Haley’s Story Of Giving
Who do you support?
I support California Pit Bull Rescue (CPR) which rescues “at risk ‘pit bull’ type dogs and facilitating social change to abolish the abuse, over breeding, and miseducation surrounding the breed. CPR will achieve these goals through a statewide fostering network, fundraising programs, educational initiatives and financial/physical support for needy guardians of pit bull type dogs.
CPR also hopes to establish a sanctuary for pit bull type dogs, which will ease local municipal shelter burdens and provide community support for responsible dog guardianship.”
Why do you support California Pit Bull Rescue?
I own bully breeds and have felt the discrimination that these breeds go through on a daily basis.
Bully breeds are lovers and it’s all in how they’re raised, any animal can be mean if taught to be that way. All owners should spay and neuter their pets to avoid the thousands of animals put down every single day in the USA due to irresponsible owners.
I have even been called a “bad mother” for keeping my pit bulls after having a child. I support this rescue because they give these breeds another chance to have the life they deserve to have.
I donate 10% of all proceeds each month to this rescue and a few other bully breed rescues in California. I donate 20% of the proceeds of my sales on large market days.
I’ve been supporting this organization and others like it for about 5 years. Some months I can only give $5, other months in able to give back much more.
How do you hope to make a difference through your support of California Pit Bull Rescue?
I love being able to educate those that only know bully breeds from media lies. When people see it’s what I donate to, they ask, “Why?”
I’m able to have an understanding conversation with them and explain that they’re not a bad breed they just weren’t given a fair chance at life.
