How To Sew A Reversible Fleece Neck Warmer
It’s easy to sew a reversible fleece neck warmer, so if you’ve been holding off trying this beginner sewing project, now’s the time to give it a go.
After all, fleece is fabric staple throughout the fall and winter months. So it’s good to learn how you like to work with it.
Why Sew With Fleece?
When I first started sewing, I tried working with a variety of fabric types and I quickly learned I liked some more than others – even within the same fabric “family”.
When it comes to fleece fabric, for example, minky dot fleece became a hard NO.
Other types of fleece were fine, though.
So I recommend everyone become comfortable using basic fleece because it opens up a bunch of easy and useful sewing projects.

Sew A Reversible Fleece Neck Warmer In 4 Steps
But first, let’s get you going on this fleece neck gaiter sewing tutorial.
For those of you who are not new to all this, sewing a reveresible fleece neck warmer is basically straight line sewing four different seams. (And one of them is closing up the turning hole.)
The only tricky part of this sewing project is if you have a brain hiccup and forget that the long edge should be cut WITH the stretch of the fleece.
To ensure all goes well, I have included pictures in the explanation below because, let’s face it, it’s just easier to see the pictures a lot of times. Right?

Easy DIY Reversible Fleece Neck Warmer
Materials
- Fleece fabric in two colors or patterns
Tools
- Rotary cutter and mat
- Sewing clips
- Sewing machine
Instructions
- Cut two 20" L x 10" pieces of fleece fabric, one in each color or pattern. The long edge should be cut WITH the stretch.
- Place the fabric right sides together and clip the long edge for sewing.
- Sew both long edge using a zigzag stitch.
- Create a short double-layer tube by pulling one short-edge to meet the other short edge.
- Align the edges and make sure the seams line up.
- Clip to prepare for sewing, leaving a 2--3 inch turning hole.
- Sew the clipped edges together usig a zigzag stitch.
- Turn the fleece neck warmer right sides out using the turning hole
- Finish the neck warmer by sewing the turning hole closed.
- Decide which side you want on the outside and enjoy your new fleece neck warmer!
Notes
- If you have fleece fabric where it's hard to tell which side is the "right side" pull along the stretch and whichever side it curls TOWARD is the wrong side of the fabric.
- This sizing wil typically fit a teen or small woman. Adjut the sizing as needed. For example, cut a longer length for a larger person.
- The more elegant finishing is to hand stitch the hole closed, but I typicaly just use the machine since the machine-sewn seam can easily be hidden when someone is wearing it.
