When designing a bracelet, I typically do the following:

• use beads in different shades of the recipient’s favorite color and if I don’t know the color, I use a versatile color like black or white,
• create a design using charms that center around a theme relevant to the recipient (sports, travel, animals, etc.)
• have a charm as the focal bead in the center and then work my spacing out on each side toward the clasp,
• include a letter charm that represents the first letter of the recipient’s first name.

If you’re new to making jewelry, you’ll want to purchase charms and beads that come with jump rings that are already attached or that can be easily added with pliers.
