Sew For A Cause: Carry the Future

Sew For A Cause: Carry the Future
Carry the Future seeks to, "unite a loving, global community with refugee children and families to bring dignity, care and awareness to the refugee journey."

In honor of International Women’s Day, I want to show you how you can donate to Carry the Future.

I chose Carry the Future to feature for this year’s International Women’s Day because the theme for 2019 is #balanceforbetter and organizations like Carry the Future support that goal. This is a nonprofit that is making a difference for families worldwide.

Carry the Future’s vision is, “a world where a child’s safety and future always come first.”

This vision easily ties into the #IWD2019 theme. If we are to create a world with better gender balance then we must continue to invest our time and energy into children who are the most vulnerable around the world.

Refugees continue to face unspeakable hardships every day which is why I so appreciate Carry the Future’s model. Specific volunteers personally distribute the baby and toddler carriers along with baby beds, blankets and children’s seasonal gear, socks, and shoes.

Donate Handmade To Carry The Future

Not everyone can travel abroad to support this worthy cause, though. So, Carry the Future offers a variety of ways to volunteer.

The most relevant way for Create To Donate readers to contribute is to make handmade gifts as part of their #Me2You campaign.

Carry the Future is currently accepting the following handmade goods:

  • Baby blankets (from 32″x32″ to 48″x48″)
  • Knit or crochet hats, scarves and gloves (child sized)
  • Sweaters (sized 3M-5T)
  • Small toys

They have even partnered with Dolls of Hope to provide patterns for teddy bears and dolls with the goal of gifting as many as they can refugee children.

Carry the Future Brings Comfort To Refugees

I believe there is an extra special something when someone is given a gift of a handmade item. In this case of a refugee child, each item will make a difference.

So if you’re only able to make a couple of items, that’s fine! Every item counts.

If you’re looking for a group activity, why not get a bunch of friends together to make no-sew blankets as a fun service project? The ideas are endless.

When you’ve completed your handmade items, send them to this address:

Carry The Future c/o Cubesmart
6875 Lee Highway
Arlington, VA 22213
Unit # 1034

When you make an item, please share it on social media with the hashtags #IWD2019 and #createtodonate so that I can repost your creations to the @goodsgivingback feed.

Share ideas for good deeds!
