How To Locate A Women’s Shelter Near You
When people often think about a “shelter” their immediate thoughts turn to homeless shelters.
But there are a variety of other shelters that serve very specific purposes especially as they relate to women and children.
So if you have a specific community you want to service by donating handmade scarves, you are sure to find a shelter that fits your criteria.
To help get you started in your search, I have share two wonderful resources below.
Domesticshelters.org

DomesticShelters.org works to, “make more people aware of the services available for those experiencing domestic violence and make it faster and easier for victims of domestic violence and their friends/family, as well as program and shelter providers, to quickly find services and information best suited to their location, language and needs.”
This service is free to the public and provided and operated by Alliance for HOPE International.
I think it’s worth noting that the “EXIT SITE” button is intentional to provide a straightforward, easy way for someone in distress to leave the site without a trace. This organization is doing its best to ensure that a person’s safety at every step.
National Women’s Shelter Network

National Women’s Shelter Network’s mission is to, “help women, children and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and the women’s and family shelters and safe haven programs that serve them, build safer, brighter futures and bring an end to and prevent homelessness in our country.”
The members of the network include women and family shelters along with safe have programs that may include:
- Day/Drop-In shelters
- Overnight shelters
- Safe havens
- Maternity programs and group homes
- Youth shelters and group home
- Nationwide network, coalitions, and associations
- Domestic violence shelters
- Flex shelters, long-term and solution-focused
- Hybrid and transitional programs
I listed all of the programs above so that you can see how many of these shelters and programs target very specific needs in their communities.
They therefore probably have specific needs for their donations. So please get in touch with someone associated with the shelter or organization you’d like to support before sending any donations.
